This is lesson one of our seven part stand up paddle stroke technique series. Paddling with efficiency and rhythm is likely something that a stand up paddler has never thought about. However, good efficiency and rhythm will help set a foundation for a good sup stroke technique.

Dancing is a good analogy to think about in the realm of efficiency and rhythm when stand up paddling. Dancing with jerky movements will be tiring and inefficient. However, smooth things out and you can tear up the dance floor all night!

  1. I've read that on the follow through part of the stroke there is little mechanical benefit to bringing the paddle past the foot and behind you.
